Oil-less Evo
CT4 Billet 6065 TRIPLEX CERAMIC™ oil-less turbo
The Shop in Kingsport, TN, a Comp Turbo Master Distributor, has had the privilege of testing the new prototype oil-less turbos on few of our customer and shop's car.
We tested the new designed oil-less turbo on couple of MKIV Supras. One of test unit was a 60mm billet compressor wheel on ct460 oil-less turbo. One of advantage of testing this oil-less unit was that our Toyota Supra's 2jz engine is ability to have a very good amount of crank ventilation (PVC system, catch can set up) by changing the factory turbo oil return port in the oil pan to be the primary ventilation source in addition to the stock 2jz's small breather on the cam cover. After few test pulls using our new oil-less turbo, the results showed that we had significantly decreased crank case pressure. This benefit not only lends to running oil-less turbo for being innovative in the market as a new turbo design, but also for its value in making our complete turbocharging systems as effective as possible.
Our observations with oil-less turbos are numerous. First is that with no oil going through the center section, there is much less drag/friction in the turbo. The engine's oil pressure is also conserved to lubricate the engine. There is not a risk of turbo failure due to bad engine oil as well, a failure that seems to be common with other manufactures. Oil temps are lower when the oil is not going through a hot turbo. And one of the largest noticeable, is not having the need to drill, tap, weld oil pans for oil feeds and plumbing oil feeds lines for the turbo. This has profound results for NA-turbo and remote mount turbo projects.
We have had amazing results with oil-less turbos. Added to that is the endless possibilities of the oil-less turbocharger which virtually can be mounted on anywhere in the car such as rear mount, front mount, and even upside down!
Our stock motor, auto tranny Supra fitted with a Comp Turbo 60mm billet ran a 10.7 after having to let out of gas twice down the track due to traction issue. It can definitely go as fast as low 10s with this current set up. Its amazing what these new billet and oil-less turbos are able to do.
At The Shop, we are currently finishing up few oil-less turbo installs on following cars: Subaru WRX, Dodge Viper, 3000gt, EVO, Supra, and GTO. We will share our results as finalized and post our dyno charts.
I want to thank Joe at comp turbo as my good friend also a true innovating turbo expert who can produce new turbos that people can look forward to. We continue to look forward to doing business and working with comp turbo.
